As the Administration of the Department of Forestry, Wood & Design Sciences of the School of Technology of the University of Thessaly, we express our warm congratulations to all the prospective students for the effort they made in this year’s Panhellenic exams and the grade they received in order to be selected in the departments that wish.
We will be happy to welcome the students who will choose and succeed in their admission to the Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences & Design during the Academic Year 2022-2023.
We are informing both the prospective students and their parents, some of the reasons they could take into account so that the Department of Forestry, Wood Science & Design should be included in their first choices.
The Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design is a new original Department for the academic data of the country created at the University of Thessaly in application of Law 4589/2019. The main purpose of the undergraduate study program is to adequately cover all the fields of knowledge of the two pillars of the new Department, namely Forestry and Wood Sciences and Design.

In addition to the above, as the Administration of the Department, we commit that the students who will be admitted to our Department will benefit from at least the fifteen (15) following advantages:
A) The Undergraduate Program
- Students will attend a pioneering Undergraduate Program, lasting 5 years to gain complete and vertical knowledge, from sustainable management of the natural environment to the utilization of its main products, with emphasis on wood and its uses, but also in product design. Graduates upon completion of their studies will receive the single and integral postgraduate degree (Integrated Master).
- Two options are offered as students from the 7th semester onwards will be able to choose between two (2) fields of study, Natural Environment Management, and Wood Sciences and Product Design.
- Students are given the opportunity to attend alongside their undergraduate study program and the special study program for certification of pedagogy and teaching training with the aim of the professional development of graduates in Primary and Secondary Education.
- Graduates of the Department are provided with their degree and a certificate of acquisition of digital skills.
- There is an individual study advisor for each student who will guide him and solve any problem and question he may have throughout his studies.
- Graduates gain a significant competitive advantage, in a job market that requires professionals with the most complete academic skills, the acquisition of valuable skills and comprehensive thinking on the utilization of the natural environment and wood. There is currently a large offer of work to graduates of the Department in several scientific subjects of the Department.

B) The infrastructure of the Department
- The Department has perfect infrastructure and building facilities on the campus of Karditsa, namely: 3 Amphitheaters, 20 laboratories and teaching rooms, 45 offices, with a total area of over 6000 sq.m., which are developed in an area of 48 acres.
- The laboratory and research equipment of the Department worth more than 4,000,000 € is exemplary, thus ensuring the perfect transfer of cutting-edge knowledge to the cognitive objects treated by the Department.
- The campus of the Department houses a Student Club (feeding more than 500 students), a Student Dormitory (accommodation of 100 students) and a modern Library.
C) The Postgraduate / Doctoral / Postdoctoral Studies
- The Department operates two organized Postgraduate Programs with titles: a) “Advanced Methods of Design, Technology & Management of Wood Products” and b) “Multifunctional Management of Forest Ecosystems and Bio-economy”. The graduates of the Department who meet the requirements have the opportunity to choose these two modern Postgraduate Programs.
- The Department conducts doctoral studies for holders of a Postgraduate Specialization Diploma, in cutting-edge research topics.
- Respectively in the Department are organized postdoctoral studies for the holders of doctoral degree.
D) The research
- The Professors of the Department organize or participate in advanced research related to its cognitive subjects. Students are encouraged to participate in teachers’ research programs.
E) Life in Karditsa
Karditsa, a city of 45,000 inhabitants, is exemplary for studies, providing all the amenities for studies. There is an organized student campus in the city for the approximately 2000 students who study in the 4 University Departments. The proximity of the city both in large urban centers (2.5 hours by bus to Thessaloniki, 3.5 hours to Athens), and in areas of high natural value (Lake Plastira, mountain range of Agrafa, etc.) ensure a comfort both in the movements and in the utilization of the students’ free time. It should be noted that Karditsa has been declared the city of the bicycle with a length of 7.5 km of bike lanes in the urban fabric that connects both the urban parts of the city and its 21 squares.
