Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design (FWSD))
The Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design (FWSD) is a pioneering department for the Greek academic standards established in 2019 at he University of Thessaly in accordance to Law 4589/2019.

Its students are attending a 5-year pioneering curriculum, which leads to their qualification with an integrated master in the specialty of Forester, Wood Scientist & Products’ Designer. The program offers a vertical knowledge starting from sustainable management of the natural environment, to the utilization of its major products, giving emphasis to wood and its uses, as long as to the design of products. We believe that, this exact scaling of the offering knowledge, it constitutes a significant competitive advantage, in a labor market which requires graduates with the best possible academic background, equipped with valuable skills and integrated way of thinking.

The Department offers 2 directions of studies starting from the 7th semester (Management of Natural Environment and Wood Sciences & Designer of products). The pre-graduate program of studies, offers to the FWSD students besides the mandatory courses, a great variety of optional courses, aiming to the provision of contemporary knowledge in specialized fields of natural environment, wood utilization, furniture and other wood-based products design, management, administration, economics and the introduction of contemporary technology in businesses and organizations, which finds an immediate implementation in labor market. Simultaneously, the department offers postgraduate and doctoral studies programs.
The FWSD has complete infrastructures and building facilities (3 halls, 20 classrooms and laboratories, 45 offices) over 4.000 m2, which are developed at an area over 10.000m2. The laboratories and research equipment is a state of the art, securing the complete pioneering knowledge transfer, regarding the scientific fields that the department deals with.. Furthermore, the students acquire related training in the context of their practical training both in private and public sectors.
The teaching staff of the Department, have a research profile of high level, holding significant publications in scientific journals and conferences and with the participation and supervision of national and international competitive research projects.
The Department is located at Karditsa city, a the beautiful town in the center of Greece and quite close from the major Greek cities, such as Larisa (50min), Thessaloniki (2,5 hours) and Athens (3,5 hours). The city of Karditsa constitutes a significant academic center of the Greek Higher Education, with an extensive campus inside the city limits, with 5 University Departments and 4 Study Programs of the former TEI of Thessaly. The students population is over 2.000 active students. Because of the long tradition in the hospitality of the students, the city of Karditsa has developed friendly infrastructures for student's life, such as for example and extensive cycling network and free municipal bicycles for movement.
