STUDENT HOUSING SUBSIDY FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2021-2022
We inform the students of the University of Thessaly that the applications for housing subsidy for the academic year 2021-2022 will be submitted electronically from Wednesday 29 June 2022 to Friday 29 July 2022, through the website of the Ministry of Education and Religions https://stegastiko.minedu.gov.gr, in the special application for the housing subsidy. Selection criteria for postgraduate students of MSc “Multifunctional Management of Forest Ecosystems & Bio-economy” for their participation in the Green Team (TranSuMan project).
Within the framework of the TranSuMan project, 4 postgraduate students will be selected (MSc “Multifunctional Management of Forest Ecosystems & Bio-economy”), so that together with 4 more undergraduate students and 5 more professionals who have interests in extensive livestock, will form the “Green Team”. This group will be coordinated by Professor Mr. Michalis Vrachnakis and Assoc. Professor Mr. Ioannis Kazoglou. The purpose of the team is for its members to receive modern knowledge (academic and empirical) of meadow management and to be trained in relevant issues in an interactive and interdisciplinary way. The postgraduate students of “Multifunctional Management of Forest Ecosystems & Bio-economy” who are interested in participating are kindly requested to express their interest by sending an email to Mr. M. Participation of professors of the Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design in a scientific conference of the Association of Administrative Judges in Northern Evia.
The Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design in the context of social responsibility is already preparing a series of pilot projects aimed at the model reconstruction of the areas affected by last year’s fire in North Evia. In this context, the Professors of the Department, Mr. Ioannis Papadopoulos (President of the Department) and Mr. Michalis Vrachnakis participated with their public speeches in a scientific conference organized by the Union of Administrative Judges and Harokopio University. The conference took place in Edipsos from 27-28 May 2022. The Professors of the Department presented the possibilities provided by the science of Forest Economics in the reconstruction of Northern Evia, as well as issues related to the role of extensive livestock in the overall biodiversity of meadows. . Completion of the exchange program between the Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design with the Armenian National Agrarian University.
As part of Erasmus’s competitive International Mobility program, the exchange of professors between the Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design and the Armenian National Agrarian University (ANAU) based in Yerevan, Armenia was recently completed. Specifically, Professor Dr. Michalis Vrachnakis visited ANAU during the period 19-27 March 2022, where he delivered a series of lectures to students and professors of the University. Mr. Vrachnakis had also the opportunity to discuss with ANAU academics the possibility of starting a project for the inventory of traditional agroforestry systems in Armenia. For this purpose, the possibility of further cooperation under the Erasmus Knowledge Alignment was sought, as both support the idea of including students in their activities, in order to gain skills and experience in inventory techniques applied in the field. Respectively, during the period 10-14 May 2022, Professor Dr. Areg Karapetyan visited the Department of Forestry, Wood Sciences and Design. The project “Advanced training on sustainable management of pastoral systems” (TranSuMan), approved by the European Commission under Key Action 2 (KA220 HED) – Cooperation partnerships in higher education, has as to develop an innovative educational approach to creating a professional profile, capable of tackling the sustainable management of European grassland ecosystems in an interdisciplinary way, according to which academic knowledge together with the experience of local stakeholders creating a favorable learning environment for students (tomorrow professionals), enabling them to work in a real environment The specific objectives of the project are: – to establish common guidelines and strategies for the sustainable management and utilization of meadows – to define teaching methods and strategies for the participation of stakeholders in the teaching / learning process. – transfer of knowledge to Higher Education students about the complexity of grassland management, including the design of sustainable product chains based on high quality products and the management of bottom-up processes.
